Kangaroo Island is located just off the coast of the Fleurieu Peninsula and spans at approximately 150km long and 30km wide with one third of the island being declared National Park. There are townships and villages that dot the coastline of Kangaroo Island where you will find much of the backpacker accommodation that you can book into that is reasonable and very affordable. Dorm beds, twin rooms and double rooms and apartments are all available and you can also take advantage of the great onsite facilities such as a communal TV room, kitchen, laundry and bar area. You can base yourself out of Kingscote where much of the population is found on Kangaroo Island or perhaps a hostel in Penneshaw.

You can opt to ride the ferry over to the island which has four daily trips or board a flight that will take you directly to the Kangaroo Island airport from where you can meet your pre arranged transportation to your Kangaroo Island accommodation. There is no public transport on Kangaroo Island but getting around to see the sights isn’t hard with a range of great tours that you can book onto. There are many Kangaroo Island activities. There are surf beaches to see, rugged coastline to explore, beautiful bays to swim in that boast azure blue waters and some of the best fishing in Australia. You can visit wineries, do some taste testing of award winning wines, get up close and personal with an array of wildlife such as kangaroos, koalas, sea lions, penguins, goannas, ospreys and so many other sea animals and reptiles. Kangaroo Island is home to a huge list of animals to great to list them all that you can see when you take a walk along the beach, hike through the National Park or just enjoying a scenic drive. You can see penguins playing in the seaside, sea lions lazing on the beach and kangaroos fossicking in the grass.

You can dive upon shipwrecks with a dive charter, do some deep sea fishing, go sailing around the island, join a four wheel driving tour, take a guided bushwalk or simply laze on the pristine white sandy beaches that ribbon the coastline. There are caves to explore, whale and dolphin watching to enjoy or a trip to the wildlife park to see the local inhabitants is also a must do. From the north to the south, east to the west, Kangaroo Island present a huge list of attractions and activities that you can fill up your days with.
